The Wichita Eagle

Client:

The Wichita Eagle
Wichita, KS

Challenge:

To propose a redesign of The Wichita Eagle. Better integration with the print version and get out of the "templated" look.

Solution:

The Header
  • The Black Bar would hold the login/personalization links, also the current date and the last time the site was updated.
  • I used The Wichita Eagle logo, but that could be easy to switch out with the Kansan.com logo. I also incorporated the streamlined search bar and an integrated quick weather info.
  • I moved the main navigation to the header with the links that were available on the home page. On interior pages, you would still have the large top links, but the section you in would have the sub navigation below and replace all the sub navigation on the home page. Also, I was thinking you could have the navbar and links color coded per major section.
The Mid Section
  • I moved the news update to a stand alone bar to bring attention to in. The mid section is also based on an 8 column layout so could be flexible.
The Footer
  • The new footer would act like a site map and would be on every page. You'd be able to hit the majority of the site from this page.

View the whole page. vs. the orignal.
